Add human approval
Pause at decisions that need your judgment. Review the current delivery before choosing how work continues.
Steps
- 01Choose an approval point
- 02Define the decision and next step
- 03Review and decide
- 04Check the resulting status
01 Choose steps that need a person
Add an approval step so a responsible person can review the output before choosing the next action. Use it for decisions such as selecting a proposal or preparing a publication. Avoid unnecessary waits in routine processing.
02 Define the decision and next step
Specify which outputs to review, what criteria to use, and what happens after approval or rejection. Give reviewers enough context to make a decision.
03 Review the delivery before deciding
The workflow waits when it reaches approval. Open the output and relevant records before approving or rejecting. Respond to requests for missing information in the corresponding request; providing information and approving a step are different actions.
04 Check the decision and workflow status
After submitting, check that the decision was received and the workflow continued. If the result is unknown or failed, inspect status before submitting again. A click does not mean subsequent work is complete.
Example: approve a comparison before the final brief
Check that costs and conditions for all three proposals have sources, and unresolved questions are listed separately. Approve the criteria and recommendation before the next employee prepares the final brief.
Approval does not replace data access
An authorized person must approve the step. Approval does not grant file or account access. The computer, agent, usage and permissions must still be available for work to continue.
